REPORTING ON THE RENO AIR RACE TRAGEDY1

Here is a phone in report I did for NECN after witnessing the plane crash at the Reno Air Races today.

I am vacationing in Reno visiting my friend Deane Barker who is the owner of Air Race 21, and as we watched the Unlimited Class race today we witnessed Jim Leeward’s plane , the Galloping Ghost, buckle in the air before it crashed in front of the A and B sections of the thousands of spectators. After the crash had taken place I raced to the scene. We were only about 300 to 400 yards away from the crash.

I will have more on this as I will be here in Reno through the weekend.

    such a tragedy for the sport, fans, enthusiasts and my sympathy goes out to the Galloping Ghost team and Jim Leeward’s people. I posted a link/memorial badge on the AirRace21.com site back to this article. Still glad to hear everyone from 21 is ok.
